Güray Kanan — Biography

Güray Kanan is a basketball player who was the youngest member of the Fenerbahçe squad that won the club's first Turkish Basketball League championship in 1990-91. He came up through the club's youth system and wore the navy-and-yellow shirt until 1998, then played for five other teams between 1999 and 2006. He now lives in Antalya and works in business.

Raised in Fenerbahçe's youth team, Kanan first took the court in the Turkish Basketball League in 1989-90 and was a junior national team player in the same years. With Fenerbahçe he finished first in the regular season in 1989-90, 1990-91 and 1991-92 and was in the squads that won the President's Cup in 1990, 1991 and 1994 and the General Directorate of Youth and Sports Cup in 1992, along with a number of special tournaments. He played in the seasons when the team reached the league final in 1992-93 and 1994-95 and the Turkish Cup final in 1993-94 and 1996-97. In 1995-96 Fenerbahçe got out of the group stage of the Korać Cup for the first time in its history and reached the quarterfinals, and Kanan had a share in that run.

After leaving Fenerbahçe he played in turn for Darüşşafaka, Tuborg Pilsener, Oyak Renault, İTÜ and TTNet Beykozspor, and he retired from active play in 2006. In later years he served as head of Antalyaspor's basketball section. In Antalya he runs two restaurants called The Big Man; he is married and has a daughter.
