Güray Kanan

Güray Kanan — Biography

Born on April 1, 1971 in Adana, Güray Kanan is a former Turkish professional basketball player. He came through Fenerbahçe's youth ranks, made his Turkish Basketball League debut in the 1989-90 season, and was also capped for Turkey's junior national team during that period.

Playing for Fenerbahçe until 1998, Kanan was part of the squad that won the club's first Turkish League championship in 1990-91, along with three regular-season titles, three President's Cup crowns and several other domestic trophies; in 1995-96 he helped the team reach the Korać Cup quarterfinals for the first time. Between 1999 and 2006 he played for Darüşşafaka, Tuborg Pilsener, Oyak Renault, İTÜ and TTNet Beykozspor before retiring from the sport in 2006, and in later years he also served as head of Antalyaspor's basketball division.

Kanan married Pınar Yapıcılar in Istanbul, and the couple's daughter Deniz pursued art studies in the United Kingdom. He now lives in Antalya, where he runs two restaurants called "The Big Man."
