Güllü — Biography

Born Gül Tut on 15 October 1973 in Hamburg, Güllü was of Romani descent; she completed her primary, secondary and high-school education in Germany and began singing in nightclubs at a young age. At fifteen, in 1988, she started performing at wedding halls, then left school for financial reasons to continue as a singer, becoming known in the 1990s as "Kasımpaşalı Güllü" for her Romani-style songs and albums. In 1996 she married music producer Gürol Gülter, with whom she had two children, Tuğyan Ülkem and Tuğberk Yağız Hamza; she returned to performing after their 2002 divorce. She occasionally appeared as herself in productions such as Ünlüler Çiftliği and Aile Saadeti.

She died on 26 September 2025 after falling from the terrace of her home in Çınarcık, Yalova. In the resulting investigation, her daughter Tuğyan Ülkem Gülter was arrested in December 2025 on a charge of intentional killing, accused of having pushed her mother; an indictment filed in August 2026 sought an aggravated life sentence against her for premeditated killing of a close relative, and the case remains ongoing.
