Görkem Can

Görkem Can — Biography

Görkem Can is a centre-back who was born in Germany, spent his youth years there, and switched from Germany to Turkey at national-team level. He came through the VfL Bochum youth system, joined the Schalke 04 youth academy in 2017, and played his professional league football in Turkey with the Süper Lig side Denizlispor.

His professional career began at Schalke 04: on 30 March 2019 he signed a professional contract with the club and played for its reserve side. On 25 January 2020 he agreed a two-and-a-half-year deal with the Dutch club Groningen, but because he lacked playing time he moved to Denizlispor about a year later, in January 2021. He made his Süper Lig debut on 28 April 2021 as a late substitute in a 6-2 defeat to Kayserispor.

At international level he first wore the Germany U16 and U17 shirts, then chose Turkey and played for the Turkey U19 and U20 sides in 2019. He left Denizlispor in September 2021 and did not join another club for a long time afterwards.
