Göksel — Biography

Born Göksel Demirpençe on 25 November 1971 in Istanbul to a family with roots in Elazığ, the singer began her professional music career while studying philosophy at Boğaziçi University, working as a soloist with several orchestras from 1992 onward, including a stint with Sezen Aksu's ensemble.

A 1994 meeting with composer Onno Tunç helped launch her recording career, and her largely self-written debut album Yollar appeared in 1997. Her 2001 follow-up Körebe was both a critical success and the start of a long musical and marital partnership with Alper Erinç. She went on to release albums steadily in the following years, earning awards including the Altın Kelebek prize for works such as Bende Bi' Aşk Var (2012) and her ninth studio album, Sen Orda Yoksun (2015), and became recognized as one of the leading female voices in Turkish pop.

She sang the Turkish national anthem ahead of the 2021 Turkish Grand Prix, and in 2026 released a new album titled Rüyaların İşi.
