Gökçek Vederson — Biography
Footballer Gökçek Vederson's birth name was Wederson Luiz da Silva Medeiros. Born on 22 July 1981 in Campos dos Goytacazes, Brazil, he broke into professional football with Internacional in 2001 after starting out at the amateur club Americano, and relocated to Turkey in 2004 when he signed for Ankaraspor.
Naturalized as a Turkish citizen in 2007, he took his new surname from Ankaraspor's honorary chairman Melih Gökçek and joined Fenerbahçe that same year, turning out for the club during their run in the 2009-10 UEFA Europa League. His later career took him to Bursaspor in 2010, Antalyaspor in 2013, Mersin İdmanyurdu in 2014 and Adana Demirspor in 2016, a club at which he was handed the captain's armband in 2020. He gave testimony in a 2011 match-fixing probe, and a resulting conviction was eventually overturned on appeal. Vederson holds dual Brazilian-Turkish citizenship.
