Gökçe Kırgız — Biography

Gökçe Kırgız is the singer, songwriter and composer of Kalbime Gömerim O Zaman, which spread online after the 17-year-old shared a voice recording with friends over MSN Messenger. After a long silence she returned to music in 2020 and is now known for Adını Anmam and her duets.

The song first spread as a vocal-only recording; once Emre Altınel added music and vocals it got a studio version through Boğaziçi Müzik and was named the second most-listened digital work at the 2007 MÜYAP Music Awards. Called the "princess of the internet" in the press, Kırgız turned down album offers and turned to her studies: International Relations at Beykent University, then a master's in Turkish Music at Haliç University's Conservatory, with a thesis on copyright in digital music. In 2010 she shared Yıldızımdın, Hak Etmedin and Kıyabilir Miyim? and then stayed off stage for years. She returned in summer 2020 singing covers on Instagram and on 9 May 2020 released the duet İkimizin Arasında with Emre Altınel. Her 2021 release Adını Anmam is a new-lyrics take on the same composition; in December 2021 came the duet Hadi Gidelim with Özkan Meydan.

She won "Rising Star of the Year" at the 7. Mood awards and "Shining Star of Turkey" at the Yılın Marka awards, and gave her first concert, acoustic, on 17 June 2021.
