Fuat Çapa — Biography
Fuat Çapa is a Turkish coach who grew up in Belgium and built most of his career in Europe; he is now director of football at Samsunspor. He is described as the first Turkish coach to earn the UEFA Pro Licence, awarded at a ceremony of the Royal Belgian Football Association, and speaks five languages.
His family took him from Emirdağ to Belgium in 1972, when he was four, and he began coaching there. He won a title with third-tier Turnhout, then worked at Patro Maasmechelen, Heusden-Zolder, Geel and KFC VW Hamme. In 2003-04 he trained under Guus Hiddink at PSV. He came to Turkey in 2007-08 with Gençlerbirliği, won the TSYD Cup with the team, but left after the first five matches of the season; in 2008-09 he took charge of MVV Maastricht in the Netherlands. He returned to Gençlerbirliği on 2 September 2011, finished ninth and had his contract extended; in 2013 club president İlhan Cavcav said the two sides could not agree on pay and the deal was not renewed.
The later stops were brief: at Kayseri Erciyesspor he parted by mutual consent after 16 weeks, in 2014 he took over Antalyaspor just above the relegation zone and could not keep them up, and in Switzerland he did not last long at FC Wil 1900. He also worked in banking, and is married with two children. As Samsunspor's director of football he has publicly discussed goalkeeper, centre-back and striker signings, and in August 2026 spoke of a top-five target.
