Filiz Vural — Biography

Filiz Vural was the second Turkish woman to be crowned Miss Europe, and after her marriage she was also known as Filiz Vural Çağlar. Born in 1953, she rose to fame in the beauty pageants of the early 1970s and later made a name for herself as a jewelry designer.

She won the pageant organised by the newspaper Hürriyet and became Miss Turkey 1970. The following year she represented Turkey at the Miss Europe contest in Tunis and won the title on 18 September 1971, becoming the second Turkish Miss Europe after Günseli Başar.

Known as a model, Vural turned to the jewelry business after her pageant years and worked as chief designer at a well-known Turkish jewelry company. In 2005 she won a Silver Award at the Hong Kong International Pearl Jewelry competition with a design inspired by Byzantine art. In 1972 she married the Yeşilçam actor Engin Çağlar.
