Fettah Can — Biography

Fettah Can was born on 12 October 1975 in Karacabey, Bursa, into a family of Albanian descent, and grew up in İnegöl. Encouraged into music by his father, a knife maker, he worked as a shop assistant by day while taking evening voice lessons at the municipal conservatory and learning oud and guitar, finishing high school externally rather than attending university and supporting himself singing in bars. His first recorded song was performed by Ömer Danış in 1994, and after settling in Istanbul he wrote for artists including Zeynep and Bora Gencer, gaining wider notice with Ara Ara, written for Emel Müftüoğlu. With his friend Alper Narman he wrote eleven songs for Hande Yener's 2002 album, then worked with performers such as Gülben Ergen, Sibel Can and Murat Boz; singing backing vocals on Ergen's Yalnızlık in 2006 encouraged him to record under his own name. He released his debut album Hazine in 2010, the same year he wrote three songs for Greek singer Giorgos Mazonakis that went platinum in Greece, and followed it with Aklımda Kalanlar in 2012. His own song Bu Aşkın Katili Sensin became a standard, and in 2026 he recorded a symphonic version of Yonca Bahçesi. Married to singer Cansu Kurtçu, he relocated from Istanbul to Bodrum in 2026 and continues to tour.
