Feriha Tevfik — Biography

Feriha Tevfik, born Feriha Tevfik Negüz on 27 May 1910 in Istanbul, became Turkey's first beauty queen after winning the pageant organized by the newspaper Cumhuriyet in 1929. She entered the contest again in 1932, this time finishing runner-up to Keriman Halis, and remained one of the most talked-about beauties of the early Republican press.

Following her pageant win she began appearing in films, later moving into operetta and comedy stage productions as well. She retired from acting in 1939.

She died in her native Istanbul on 22 April 1991.
