Ferhat Göçer — Biography

Ferhat Göçer is a singer who brought surgery and classical vocal training together on the pop stage and for years kept practising as a physician. What sets him apart is opera technique applied to pop songs, and a concert repertoire running from opera arias and chanson to Turkish art and folk music and light Western standards. He retired from 25 years of medicine in 2017 and now concentrates on music; his single Kalbimin Orta Yeri came out in 2026.

His career sits at the crossing of two trainings. He finished Istanbul Faculty of Medicine, entered the singing department of the Istanbul University State Conservatory in 1988 and worked under contract at the State Opera and Ballet for two years. After compulsory service in Şanlıurfa he started as a general surgeon at Haydarpaşa Numune Hospital. He turned to pop in 2002 and released a self-titled first album in 2005; Yolun Açık Olsun (2007) earned a MUYAP Gold Record. In 2008 he won Best Male Pop at the Kral TV Video Music Awards and Best Turkish Pop Male Soloist at the Golden Butterfly Awards. He has performed with the Metropol Symphony Orchestra, which he founded, toured Anatolia with his Anadolu Aryaları project, and released albums such as Sabahattin Ali Şarkıları (2020) and DüetZ (2022). He has also acted occasionally.

The eldest son of a Kurdish-origin family of educators, he was born in Birecik and raised in İzmit. He was UNICEF goodwill ambassador for Turkey from 2012 to 2014 and has held office at the MSG professional union since 2014.
