Fehmi Sağınoğlu — Biography

Fehmi Sağınoğlu was a former international footballer and later coach who played at left-back and is counted among the legendary players of Beşiktaş. With Beşiktaş he won the Süper Lig in 1965-66 and 1966-67, and he won 18 caps for the Turkey national team.

His path began in Eskişehir, with sides that existed before Eskişehirspor was founded. He moved to Kasımpaşa, then in the Süper Lig in 1958-59, and played four seasons there. In August 1962 he transferred to Beşiktaş, but because he was still doing his military service he could not play official matches for his new club for a season. From 1963-64 he started playing for Beşiktaş and soon won a place in the starting eleven. That form earned him a call-up to the national team in 1965.

During his national-team years, from 1965 to 1968, he was in the squad that won the second RCD Cup, held in Dhaka, East Pakistan, in 1967. The same year he also won the Presidential Cup with Beşiktaş. After retiring as a player he worked as a coach. He died on 19 September 2016 at the age of 79, and the Beşiktaş community bade him farewell at a ceremony.
