Fatma Nezihe Araz — Biography
Fatma Nezihe Araz was born on 11 May 1920 in Konya. After finishing Ankara Lisesi, she studied at Ankara University's Faculty of Language and History-Geography, launching a long career that combined journalism, writing, poetry, and screenwriting.
She reached a wide readership with her 1959 best-selling book on the saints of Anatolia, and alongside that work she wrote a number of plays for television and the stage as well as three books about Atatürk. Her body of work in literature and journalism was later recognized with the State Artist title.
Araz died in Istanbul on 25 July 2009, and she remains remembered in Turkish letters as a figure known both as a writer and as a journalist.
