Fatih Kısaparmak — Biography

Born Fatih Güngör on 31 January 1961 in Maden, Elazığ, Fatih Kısaparmak is the son of retired teacher Yıldız Hanım and educator-official Necip Bey. As a young man he studied music at the Ankara State Conservatory and TRT Ankara Radio and painting at the State Fine Arts Gallery, worked as a parliamentary photo correspondent for Tasvir Gazetesi while still in high school, and published poetry and research in literary journals such as Varlık during his university years. He also wrote a scholarly study of the Harput dialect and a poetry collection titled Ve Ağır Sevdam.

He launched his artistic career in 1985 as a composer, lyricist and performer, reaching a wide audience with his debut piece Kilim; over the following decades he released dozens of albums and more than 200 compositions, earning nicknames such as Çağdaş Ozan and Türkü Baba. Through the ensembles Grup Kilim and Grup Mozaik he staged benefit concerts for earthquake and mining-disaster victims and performed widely at home and abroad. In 2000 Fırat University's senate awarded him an honorary doctorate for his contributions to folk music. Married since 1991 to journalist Şebnem Ergür and father of two sons, he received an honorary award in Esenler in February 2026 and gave a poetry performance on Kanal D in March 2026.
