Faruk Barlas — Biography

Faruk Barlas (1916, Istanbul – 9 January 1994, Istanbul) was a Turkish international footballer who played in defence for Galatasaray. A few sources date his birth to 12 April 1915, but most Turkish and German accounts give 1916.

Educated at Galatasaray High School, he came through the club's own youth system and stayed long enough to be counted among the important figures of its history. The defensive pairing he formed with his long-time team-mate Adnan İncimen was nicknamed the "Majino Hattı" after France's Maginot Line, and Barlas himself became known as "Majino" or "Majino Faruk".

He won a single cap for Turkey in 1937 and was part of the Turkish squad for the football tournament at the 1936 Summer Olympics without playing a match. After retiring he worked as a referee and administrator, holding office within the Turkish Football Federation during the 1960s.
