Evren Nuri Turhan — Biography
Evren Nuri Turhan (born 10 September 1974 in Kayseri) is a former Turkish international footballer and football commentator. He started out in Balıkesirspor's youth system, turned professional in 1992, and made his first official appearance in a Second League match against Manisaspor on 22 November 1992, going on to be a regular starter there for two seasons.
Ahead of the 1994-95 season he moved to Süper Lig side Kocaelispor, where he had a successful season and a half. In the mid-season transfer window of 1995-96 he was swapped for Saffet Sancaklı and joined Galatasaray, scoring alongside Hakan Şükür in away wins over Gençlerbirliği and Beşiktaş. On 12 December 1996 he was traded back to Kocaelispor in exchange for goalkeeper Volkan, and became closely associated with the club, where he played for five years. He was called up to Turkey's national teams 94 times, actually taking the field in 34 of those (2 for the U-16s, 22 for the U-18s, 8 for the U-21s, and 2 for the senior team), scoring 2 goals.
In 2011 he moved to amateur-league side Büyükderespor, played for Sarıyer Maden Gençlikspor in 2013-14, then returned to Büyükderespor to finish out his career. After retiring as a player he became a football commentator. His father, Osman Nuri Turhan, was a professional footballer who played for clubs including Balıkesirspor, Düzcespor, and Kayserispor in the 1960s and 1970s, and died in 2022; his brother Serkan Turhan also had a professional playing career.
