Ertuğrul Sağlam — Biography
Ertuğrul Sağlam was a Beşiktaş goalscorer in the 1990s and, as a manager, the man who took Bursaspor to the Süper Lig title in 2009-10. He scored 11 goals in 30 appearances for Turkey and was in the Euro 1996 squad. He most recently coached Kocaelispor and left that post in December 2024.
While studying metallurgical engineering at Yıldız Technical University he played in Fenerbahçe's youth team, but he turned professional at Gaziantepspor in 1986. He spent nine years in total at Samsunspor, helping win promotion to the top flight in 1991 and again in 1993. In 1994 he moved to Beşiktaş for what was then a record fee; his 28 goals in the first season won the league, and he scored 103 goals in 167 league games over six seasons, also playing in defense under John Toshack. In 2000-01 he was swapped for Erman Güraçar and returned to Samsunspor, retiring in 2003.
He began coaching at Samsunspor and joined Kayserispor in 2005. He lifted Kayserispor to fifth place in 2005-06 and won the 2006 UEFA Intertoto Cup. In July 2007 he took over Beşiktaş and finished third, but the team lost 8-0 to Liverpool in the Champions League; he resigned on 7 October 2008. He arrived at Bursaspor on 2 January 2009 and in his first full season gave the club its first Süper Lig title. He later managed Iran's Tractor Tabriz in two separate spells.
