Ertuğrul Arslan — Biography

As a midfielder, Ertuğrul Arslan celebrated league titles and promotions to the Süper Lig with clubs such as Sivasspor, Balıkesirspor and Göztepe, and after retiring from playing he turned to coaching. He worked as an assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund, then took charge of Boluspor, and entered the 2026-27 season as head coach of Bandırmaspor.

He started in the Kayserispor youth system and moved up to the first team in 1998. After four years there he went to Sivasspor, where he spent three seasons and in 2004-05 helped the team win the First League title and reach the Süper Lig. Loan spells followed: Bursaspor in the middle of 2005-06 and Elazığspor in 2006-07. From 2007-08 he played for Antalyaspor, and in the second half of 2010-11 he joined Konyaspor. He signed for Balıkesirspor at the start of 2012-13 and won the Second League championship in his first season; the next year the team finished second and went up to the Süper Lig. When his contract ended before 2014-15 he joined Göztepe in the Second League and was champion again that same season. Kayseri Erciyesspor and Körfez SK are also among the clubs he played for.

Looking back on his coaching path, he has described his time at Dortmund as being 'like a school.' At Bandırmaspor he said at the summer training camp that the club was planning to add three or four players, and after the early matches of the season he has said he wants a more productive team that is enjoyable to watch.
