Erman Toroğlu — Biography
Erman Refik Toroğlu (born 24 November 1948 in Altındağ, Ankara) is a Turkish former footballer, former FIFA-listed referee, football pundit and sports columnist. He studied at Ankara Atatürk High School and later at Gazi University.
After his playing days he took up refereeing and officiated at international level, and following his retirement from the field he became known as a television analyst and newspaper columnist. His blunt style and his readings of refereeing decisions have made him one of the most talked-about commentators in Turkish sport; those readings are his own opinions and are frequently disputed by clubs and colleagues.
In February 2026 he was released under judicial supervision after an investigation was opened into him. In June 2026 an indictment over remarks he had made about Galatasaray sought a sentence of up to three years; according to Cumhuriyet, NTV, Hürriyet, CNN Türk and T24, he was acquitted at the first hearing on 5 June 2026.
