Erman Kunter — Biography
Erman Kunter (born 8 October 1956 in Istanbul) is one of Turkish basketball's best-known figures, having built a long career as both a player and a coach. A graduate of Galatasaray High School, he played for clubs such as İTÜ, Beşiktaş, Eczacıbaşı and Fenerbahçe, and represented the Turkish national team in more than 200 games.
Playing for Fenerbahçe against Hilalspor in 1988, Kunter scored 153 points in a single game, a mark that remains the highest total ever recorded in a professional top-tier basketball league anywhere in the world. He retired from playing in 1992 and went on to coach a number of clubs in Turkey and France, including Galatasaray and Cholet Basket, as well as national-team programs; in 2010 he also obtained French citizenship, becoming a dual national.
Beyond basketball, Kunter has continued to write about the sport, contributing a regular column to the newspaper Cumhuriyet and to Basket Dergisi.
