Ergün Demir — Biography

Ergün Demir (born 10 December 1969 in Giresun) is a Franco-Turkish actor, director and screenwriter. Born in Tepeköy, Giresun, he moved to France with his family in 1973 and spent most of his early life there. He first appeared on stage at the age of ten in Le Petit Prince, trained as an actor with Frédérique Rose, Jacques Kraemer and Jean Darnel, and worked in theatre, film (Ma petite entreprise) and television (PJ).

In 2005 he returned to Turkey and settled in Istanbul, where a decisive meeting with director Atıf Yılmaz led him to teach acting at Ekol Drama Sanat Evi alongside Ayla Algan. His role as Ali Kemal Evliyaoğlu in the television series Binbir Gece (2006) made him popular from Eastern Europe to South America.

On stage he played Chérubin in The Marriage of Figaro (2010) and Hacı Boğos in Pir Sultan Abdal (2011), and from June 2011 he hosted the culture programme Maksat Sanat on BEA TV. In 2015, riding the success of Binbir Gece in Argentina, he appeared in a full season of ShowMatch (Bailando por un sueño) with his interpreter Jazmín Natour. He also acted in the films Ateş (2016) and Zerk (2018).
