Eren Derdiyok — Biography
Eren Derdiyok (born 12 June 1988 in Basel) is a Swiss former professional footballer who played as a striker. Born into a Kurdish family from Tunceli in Turkey, the 1.91 m forward began his professional career in 2005 and played for eleven clubs over 19 years.
His longest spells were at Bayer Leverkusen (2009-2012) and Galatasaray (2016-2019), and in 2020 he spent a year with Pakhtakor in the Uzbek capital Tashkent. Between 2008 and 2018 he won 60 caps for Switzerland, featuring at UEFA Euro 2008 and the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Derdiyok announced his retirement in January 2024 at the age of 35. He became assistant coach at FC Schaffhausen the same year and later worked as a youth coach at FC Basel.
