Ercüment Şahin — Biography

Ercüment Şahin is a striker born in Switzerland who came to Turkey at 27 and whom Bursaspor supporters still regard as a hero. He is remembered for his goals in the UEFA Intertoto Cup, above all the one against Karlsruhe, and holds the title of Bursaspor's top scorer in European competition. Despite staying only a year and a half, he is seen among the more important players in the club's history. He now coaches the FC Zürich under-17 side in Switzerland.

He began at FC Bülach in Switzerland and also wore the shirts of FC Zürich and FC Chiasso, topping the scoring charts once at each, with 31 goals at Zürich and 27 at Chiasso. In 1995 he came to Bursaspor through the then coach Nejat Biyediç. There he scored 6 goals in the Intertoto Cup and 7 in European competition in all. He then played for Altay, Vanspor, Konyaspor and Sarıyer and finished his career at his boyhood club FC Bülach. He appeared for the Turkey national team only once, in a 2-0 friendly win over Moldova on 14 August 1996.

He studied surveying and cadastre at Yıldız Technical University. He began coaching in 2005 with the Anadolu University amateur team and then held posts at several Turkish clubs: Dardanelspor, İzmirspor, İnegölspor, Eskişehirspor and, between January 2010 and March 2011, Kayseri Erciyesspor.
