Enis Esmer — Biography
Ennis Esmer (spelled Enis Esmer in Turkish) is a Turkish-Canadian actor, comedian and presenter, born in Ankara and raised in Toronto, who also works as a voice actor, writer and producer. He is best known internationally as Rich Dotcom in Blindspot, a part written specifically for him, and he is a familiar face on Canadian television through The Listener, Red Oaks and Private Eyes.
His family moved to Canada when he was three. He studied drama at York University but left after three years without finishing, and developed his craft at Second City and with the teacher David Rotenberg. His first break was writing and hosting the short-lived The Toronto Show in 2003. His first noticed acting role was the temperamental janitor Zoltan in Billable Hours, a one-off appearance that grew into a recurring part. The Listener followed, with Osman “Oz” Bey earning him Canadian Comedy Award nominations in 2010 and 2011. From 2014 he ran several series at once: You Me Her, Nash in Red Oaks, Kurtis “Maz” Mazhari in Private Eyes and Blindspot, where Rich Dotcom grew from a single-episode part into a series regular. He also played a three-episode arc in Schitt's Creek and was a regular in Children Ruin Everything from 2022 to 2025.
In film, Young People Fucking was his breakout and Big News from Grand Rock his first lead. He won best male performance at the Canadian Comedy Awards for Dirty Singles and a Canadian Screen Award in 2023 for Children Ruin Everything. He has twice hosted the Gemini Awards.
