Engin Nurşani — Biography
Engin Nurşani, born Engin Ayhan on 9 January 1984 in Krefeld, Germany, was a Turkish-German folk musician. The son of Alevi ashik and folk poet Ali Nurşani, he built a wide following in Turkey through his türkü-style recordings. He launched his recording career in 2003 with the album "Adına Bir Çizik Çektim" and went on to release eight albums before being diagnosed with throat cancer in 2019.
After a period away from performing due to his illness, Nurşani died on the morning of 25 December 2020 at Istanbul's Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital. In the years since his death, his son has performed his father's songs on the saz, and other artists have continued to reinterpret his repertoire.
