Engin İpekoğlu — Biography

Engin İpekoğlu was born on 7 June 1961 in İzmir and began his goalkeeping career with the Austrian club Prater SV in 1978. He joined Sakaryaspor in 1982, turned professional there in 1985, and won the Turkish Cup with the club in 1988. His move to Beşiktaş in 1989 brought two Süper Lig titles (1990 and 1991) and a Turkish Cup (1990), and in 1991 he transferred to Fenerbahçe, where he became the club's first-choice goalkeeper and later added a further league title in 1996. He also had a spell with Çanakkale Dardanelspor and earned 32 caps for the Turkey national team, making his debut in a friendly against Greece on 29 March 1989.

İpekoğlu retired from playing in 2000 and moved into coaching, first serving as an assistant to Raşit Çetiner before taking over as Bursaspor's head coach when Çetiner departed. In the years that followed he managed clubs including Bodrumspor and Adanaspor, and more recently he has appeared as a football commentator on television broadcasts.
