Engin Baytar — Biography
Born on 11 July 1983 in Gütersloh, Germany to Turkish parents, Engin Baytar built a career as a midfielder who could operate on either flank. He started out in the youth ranks of FC Gütersloh before moving to Arminia Bielefeld in 2000, where he spent four seasons with the reserve side. In 2004 he moved to Turkey to join Maltepespor, later transferring to Gençlerbirliği, who loaned him to Eskişehirspor for the second half of the 2008-09 season.
Baytar went on to represent clubs including Galatasaray, Trabzonspor, Çaykur Rizespor and Karşıyaka. He chose to wear the number 50 on his shirt as a tribute to Nevşehir, his mother's home province, while his father is from Trabzon; he is also the son of Adnan Baytar, a former Vanspor player. Baytar closed out his playing career with amateur-league side İzmirspor during the 2021 season before retiring.
