Emir Halimić — Biography

Emir Halimić is a Bosnian basketball player and coach, born in Sarajevo, who played as a guard and stands 1.98 metres tall. His professional career began in Bosnia in 1990 and ended in 2009 at KK Triland, after which he turned to coaching. He now works as head coach of his country's women's national basketball team.

The Bosna club was the starting point of his playing years: Halimić turned professional with it in 1990, quickly became one of the key players in the squad, and returned to Bosna several times in later years. Abroad he wore the shirts of Darüşşafaka and Tuborg in Turkey, Kaposvári, Dombóvár and Szolnoki Olajbányász in Hungary, and Le Havre in France, and he also played for Slavija in Sarajevo. He took the floor for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team at EuroBasket 1993, where the side finished eighth in the country's first appearance at the tournament.

Having completed his coaching education, Halimić was named sporting director of Slavija Sarajevo in 2008 and worked with youth and senior teams in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including young national selections. In July 2012 he took charge of KK Bosna Royal and resigned that December. In May 2025 he was appointed head coach of the women's national team, succeeding Drago Karalić. A basketball school he co-founded with former teammates Nenad Marković and Gordan Firić is counted among his contributions to the development of the sport in the country.
