Emin Alper — Biography

Emin Alper (born August 13, 1974, in Karaman) is a Turkish film director, screenwriter, and academic. After graduating from Boğaziçi University's Department of Economics, he earned a doctorate in Modern Turkish History at the same university's Atatürk Institute and continues to teach at Istanbul Technical University. He began his filmmaking career with the short films Mektup (2005) and Rıfat (2006), before his feature debut Beyond the Hill (2012) won the Best Film award at the Istanbul Film Festival and the Caligari Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.

His second feature, Frenzy (2015), earned the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival, while A Tale of Three Sisters (2019) competed in the main section of the Berlinale and received multiple SİYAD nominations. Following Burning Days (2022), his subsequent film Salvation won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in 2026 and opened in Turkish theaters on March 6, 2026.

Beyond cinema, Alper directed the television series Alef in 2020, and in the summer of 2026 the first images from his upcoming HBO Max series İnsanlar were released.
