Emel Sayın — Biography
Emel Sayın was born on 20 November 1945 in the Şarkışla district of Sivas and is one of Turkey's most enduring vocalists, recording artists and film actresses. After training at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory, she began performing in the early 1960s and built a career spanning more than six decades, earning the honorary title of State Artist from the Turkish government in 1998.
She also appeared on screen throughout the Yeşilçam era, taking lead roles in films such as Mavi Boncuk, Acı Hatıralar, Hasret and Rüzgâr, and returning to cinema in the 2007 drama Beyaz Melek. Alongside her acting credits, she released dozens of albums that made her one of the most respected names in Turkish popular music.
In the summer of 2026 she postponed a series of concerts to undergo several months of medical treatment; during her recovery she kept in touch with fans through updates about her daily life, remaining a closely followed public figure in Turkey.
