Doğan Koloğlu — Biography
Doğan Koloğlu (1927, Sürmene – 13 November 2013, Istanbul) was a name closely tied to Galatasaray, remembered in Turkish sports history as a footballer, coach, club executive and sports journalist.
Educated at Galatasaray High School, he served the club first as a player and later as an administrator and coach, also holding the post of second chairman of Galatasaray's General Assembly board. After coaching Beyoğluspor and Feriköy in the 1960s, Koloğlu took over Galatasaray on a caretaker basis in 1975 following Jack Mansell's departure and led the team to the Prime Ministry Cup title.
He later built a long career in sports journalism, heading the sports desk at Hürriyet and writing for Akşam, Milliyet, Sabah and Vatan. A founding member of the Turkish Sports Writers Association (TSYD), he served as the organization's president from 1981 to 1984. Son of governor Sadullah Koloğlu and brother of journalist-historian Orhan Koloğlu, he was also the father of the well-known musician Sina Koloğlu. Koloğlu died in 2013 at the hospital where he was being treated and was buried at Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
