DJ Quicksilver — Biography

Orhan Terzi, known as DJ Quicksilver, is a German-Turkish DJ and music producer best known for Bellissima, which crossed from the dance charts to the pop charts. He was born in Trabzon, and his family settled in Hattingen, Germany, in the late 1960s. His stage name comes from the mercury column that showed how the crowd was responding at DJ contests.

In his early years he collaborated with Tommaso de Donatis on the DJ Quicksilver project and put out tracks through several labels, among them Avex Trax, Positiva and Telstar. Bellissima, released in November 1996, was a dance-chart success in Britain in 1997, then moved into the pop market and peaked at number four in the UK Singles Chart; it sold strongly across Europe and went gold. Boombastic, which borrows from a Shaggy track, is another of his best-known releases. His studio albums are Quicksilver (1997), Escape 2 Planet Love (1998) and Clubfiles (The Album) (2003).

Under the alias Watergate he released Heart of Asia in 1999, a remix of Ryuichi Sakamoto's Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence; the journalist James Masterton wrote that few dance versions of a well-known song make the original sound almost flat in comparison. In 2002 he was nominated for an ECHO in the Best National Dance Act category for Ameno. He has also remixed tracks by Ian van Dahl, Faithless and the Verve's Bittersweet Symphony.
