Deniz Tekin — Biography

Born Hatice Deniz Tekin in İzmir in 1997, the musician was the child of civil-servant parents whose work as dentists moved the family between cities including Mardin and Gaziantep during her childhood. Her interest in music, which began with piano and flute, continued through local bands in her teenage years, and after moving to Istanbul to study Western languages and literature at Boğaziçi University she built a wide online following by posting original songs and interpretations of well-known tracks, releasing her first album while still a teenager.

In the years that followed she collaborated with other artists, contributed to a large multi-artist protest song addressing social issues, and put out several EPs and standalone singles, at one point also playing bass in another act's live shows. In early 2024 she said she was stepping back from commercial music-making, citing the industry's precarious conditions, and turned to teaching, though she never left performing behind entirely. She played a set with a string quartet in late 2025, and drew attention again in mid-2026 when tension over sound levels during a concert led her to cut the show short.
