David Durmaz — Biography

David Durmaz is a retired Swedish footballer of Assyrian descent, born on 21 December 1981 in Sweden. His parents, Bünyamin and Terzo Durmaz, emigrated from Midyat in Mardin province, southeastern Turkey, as workers in 1975; because of this family background, Durmaz holds Turkish citizenship in addition to his Swedish one. His first name is said to derive from his grandfather's name, Davut, which was recorded on his passport in its English form, David. He is a relative of the better-known international footballer Jimmy Durmaz.

A defender, Durmaz began his career with Malmö FF in Sweden before moving to Turkish club Denizlispor in the summer of 2009; a troubled transfer left him with little playing time, and he departed the club that winter. Back in Sweden, he joined newly promoted Syrianska FC and, from 2012, its city rival Assyriska Föreningen; he also had a spell with Konyaspor KIF later in his career before retiring from the game.
