Coşkun Sabah — Biography

Coşkun Sabah was born on 16 October 1952 in Diyarbakır to an ethnic Assyrian family; his mother's name was Roza and his father's name was Tekin. He is married and the father of two daughters. His brother Taşkın Sabah has worked as an arranger for singer Gülben Ergen, while another brother, Bülent Sabah, is a violin and oud player who lives in Australia.

Active as a composer from the late 1970s through the early 1990s, Sabah wrote more than a hundred songs and built a large following toward the end of the 1980s and into the early 1990s, earning him the nickname "the Frank Sinatra of Turkey." His cassette "Aşığım Sana" became one of the best-selling releases of the era, with roughly three million copies sold. He also appeared on screen in films such as Bir Pazar Günü, Anılar, Benimsin and Hatıram Olsun, and contributed music and compositions to several other productions.

By his own account, Sabah stepped away from music for two to three years, a period during which he briefly invested in an egg-farming venture before withdrawing from the business. More recently he has returned to the stage, performing his best-known works in symphonic arrangements with the CSO Ada Ankara orchestra.
