Cevat Güler — Biography

Cevat Güler (born 3 December 1959 in Perşembe, Ordu Province) is a former Turkish football player best remembered for his later career as a coach. After graduating from the Anadoluhisarı Youth and Sports Academy in 1981, he played volleyball and football before taking up amateur coaching at Küçükköy Kültürspor in 1985. From 1985 to 1997 he worked in Gaziosmanpaşa's youth academy, winning two Istanbul and one national youth championship. He earned a Turkish Football Federation head-coaching diploma in 1997, then spent three years in Beşiktaş's youth setup before taking charge of Third League side Yıldırım Bosnaspor from 2000 to 2002.

Güler completed a master's degree in exercise physiology at Istanbul University in 1989 and also lectured there. He is best known for a brief spell as caretaker head coach of Galatasaray in the final six weeks of the 2007-08 season, stepping in after Karl-Heinz Feldkamp's resignation and winning all six remaining matches to clinch the league title — a feat still referred to in Turkey as 'six for six.' His role at Galatasaray ended after the 2008-09 season, and in 2012-13 he took charge of Orduspor as head coach for the final five weeks of that campaign.
