Çetin İpekkaya — Biography

Çetin İpekkaya was born on 15 April 1937 in Diyarbakır and died on 24 April 2016 in Berlin. He became interested in theatre while a student at Galatasaray High School, took part in founding the Genç Oyuncular theatre company in 1957, and with support from Muhsin Ertuğrul won a scholarship to study directing in France; he later studied French Philology at Istanbul University's Faculty of Letters. He built his career between Turkey and Germany, working as a theatre director, actor and writer, and also appeared in the long-running German television series Lindenstraße. In cinema he appeared in films such as Adak, Kobay, Hekim İbn-i Sina, Evet, ich will! and Heil, and on television in the series Keşanlı Ali Destanı. Over the course of his career he directed 118 stage productions.
