Ceren Necipoğlu — Biography

Fatma Ceren Necipoğlu (18 January 1972, Istanbul – 1 June 2009) was a Turkish harpist and university lecturer in piano and harp. After attending the Deutsche Schule Istanbul, she studied at Boğaziçi University and continued her musical education in the United States at Indiana University and Louisiana State University.

Teaching piano and harp, Necipoğlu combined her academic work with concerts and became one of the best-known harpists in Turkey.

She died on 1 June 2009 when Air France Flight 447 from Rio de Janeiro to Paris crashed into the Atlantic Ocean. Her remains were recovered about two and a half years later and brought to Istanbul in November 2011 for burial.
