Cem Akdağ — Biography

Cem Akdağ was born on March 18, 1956, in Samsun. He completed his primary education at Şişli Terakki High School and his secondary education at Ankara Yükseliş College before graduating from Marmara University's School of Physical Education and Sports. Married with one child, Akdağ moved into coaching after his playing career ended.

Over the years he has coached at clubs including Galatasaray, GS Cafe Crown, Gaziantep Basketbol and Tofaş, first working in Tofaş's youth setup before taking charge of the senior team, a spell that ended when the two sides parted ways in the summer of 2025. He has also led the Akran Gemlik and BGL teams, building a reputation as an experienced coach particularly known for his work in youth basketball.

Akdağ regularly writes columns for Basketfaul sharing his views on player development and youth coaching, and remains a respected figure in Turkish basketball owing to his decades of experience.
