Cem Adrian

Cem Adrian — Biography

Cem Adrian, born Cem Filiz on 30 November 1980 in Edirne, is a Turkish singer, songwriter, composer and record producer of Bosniak descent. He took his stage name from Hadrianoupolis, the ancient name of his hometown. He became interested in music in middle school, worked as a presenter and broadcast director at a local Edirne radio station from the age of twelve, and recorded most of his early material in that station's studio.

After moving to Istanbul, he performed as the lead singer of the ethnic-electronic group Mystica in 2002. A demo that reached pianist Fazıl Say through singer Demet Sağıroğlu led to two years as a special student at Bilkent University's music faculty. His debut album Ben Bu Şarkıyı Sana Yazdım appeared in 2005, followed by records such as Aşk Bu Gece Şehri Terk Etti (2006), Emir (2008), Kayıp Çocuk Masalları (2010) and Tuz Buz (2017). He developed a distinctive style blending alternative rock, jazz, electronic and ethnic music with densely layered vocal arrangements, largely outside the mainstream pop industry.

His vocal cords are reported to be about three times longer than average, allowing him to sing from bass to soprano across a remarkably wide range. He is also known for speaking out on free expression and human rights and for supporting charitable causes. In April 2026 he gave testimony in a drug investigation and was released under judicial control.
