Çağdaş Atan — Biography

Born on 29 February 1980 in İzmir, Çağdaş Atan is a former central defender who now works as a football coach. He came up through the youth setups of Altay and Marmaris before breaking through with Denizlispor, later moving on to Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor and having a brief spell in Germany with Energie Cottbus. A 2009 transfer to Switzerland's Basel brought back-to-back league titles and UEFA Champions League group-stage football, and he capped off his playing days with spells at Mersin İdmanyurdu, Akhisarspor, Gaziantep BB, and Manisaspor before retiring in 2015.

Atan moved into coaching as an assistant to Sergen Yalçın at Beşiktaş, then took his first head-coaching job at Alanyaspor in 2020, followed by Kayserispor in 2022. In 2023 he was appointed manager of İstanbul Başakşehir, finishing his debut season there in 4th place in the Süper Lig before parting ways with the club. He took charge of Konyaspor in November 2025, but left the position in February 2026 following a run of disappointing results.

In May 2026, Atan made a guest appearance as an actor in the television series Gönül Dağı. He is remembered in Turkish football both for his playing career and for his subsequent work on the touchline as a head coach.
