Çağdaş Atan — Biography

Çağdaş Atan is a former central defender who won two Swiss league titles with Basel and then turned to coaching, managing Alanyaspor, Kayserispor, İstanbul Başakşehir and Konyaspor. He took Başakşehir to fourth place in the league in his first season there; his last post was at Konyaspor, which he left in February 2026.

He began at eight in Altay's youth system. He turned professional at Marmarisspor in 2000 and won the Third League there, then returned to Altay, won the Second League and played two seasons in the Süper Lig. His form at Denizlispor led to a call-up to the national team in 2004, and he scored his first goal in a friendly against Croatia. He moved to Beşiktaş and in 2006 to Trabzonspor, and played for Energie Cottbus in Germany in 2008. Joining Basel on a free transfer in 2009, he won the league and cup double in 2009-10 and a second league title in 2010-11, and played in the Champions League. He then played for Mersin İdman Yurdu, Akhisar Belediyespor, Gaziantep BB and Manisaspor and retired in 2015.

From 2016 he worked as an assistant to Sergen Yalçın; in 2020 he took charge of Alanyaspor and finished seventh in the league. He joined Kayserispor in June 2022 and finished ninth in his first season, leaving in September 2023 over the club's handling of the transfer window. At Başakşehir he reached the Conference League and finished fifth in the league in 2024-25 before the sides parted in 2025. He took over Konyaspor in November 2025 and left in February 2026. In May 2026 he made a guest appearance in the series Gönül Dağı.
