Burak Gürpınar — Biography

Burak Gürpınar is a Turkish drummer and musician born on 23 March 1975 in Istanbul. He began playing drums in high school, earning recognition at inter-school music competitions, then played in bands including Virüs, Badluck, Blue Blues Band and The End before joining Kurban — then known as Cockroach — in 1995. He later played with The Climb in 1999, formed his own group hücumkedi in 2001, and paused his music career for military service in 2002.

With Kurban, Gürpınar recorded the studio albums Kurban, Sert and İnsanlar. After the band split in 2005, he joined Athena, appearing on the İt EP and the Athena album. He also played drums on Teoman's album En Güzel Hikayem and on several tracks of Şebnem Ferah's Artık Kısa Cümleler Kuruyorum, and contributed drums to Serdar Öztop's song Dünya.

Also active as a graphic designer, Gürpınar created the artwork for most of Kurban's albums, including the logo and concept design for Sahip. He appeared in the 2011 video for Tarkan's song Acımayacak, performed on Roland's SPD-SX hybrid drum system in 2014, and took part in the 2015 multi-drummer project Bir de Benden Dinle – Drum Experiment alongside 19 other drummers.
