Bülent Şahinkaya — Biography
Bülent Şahinkaya was born in Trabzon in 1948 and played as a midfielder, known by the nickname "Küçük Bülent" (Little Bülent). He was one of seven children, six sons and a daughter; his father İbrahim and eldest brother Yılmaz were amateur footballers, while his brothers Coşkun and Güngör also became professional footballers and, like him, played for Trabzonspor.
Şahinkaya played for Trabzonspor and captained the side in the 1973-74 season, when the club was promoted to the top division for the first time in its history. He later moved to Galatasaray, winning the Turkish Cup with the club in 1975-76.
Remembered as one of Trabzonspor's legendary captains, Şahinkaya died in Istanbul on 29 June 2009; the club commemorates him every year on the anniversary of his death.
