Buket Alakuş — Biography
Buket Alakuş was born on 1 July 1971 in Istanbul and is a Turkish-born screenwriter and director based in Germany. She first drew wide attention in 2001 with her debut feature Anam, which she wrote and directed and which earned numerous awards, quickly establishing her as one of the leading figures in Turkish-German cinema.
Her second film as writer-director, Offside (2005), received the Adolf Grimme Award, and she went on to make Finnischer Tango (2008) and Einmal Hans mit scharfer Soße (2013). In the 2020s she directed a Netflix romantic comedy set between Germany and Turkey, with production taking place partly in Turkey.
