Bekir Refet — Biography

Nicknamed "Bombacı" (the Bomber) by fans, Bekir Refet Teker was a Turkish footballer born on May 22, 1899, in Istanbul. Like many young players from Kadıköy, he came up through Fenerbahçe's youth ranks before being promoted to the first team, where he played as a forward. He also turned out for Altınordu and, in friendly matches only, Galatasaray, and represented Turkey at the 1924 and 1928 Olympics; he is remembered in particular for scoring the winner as Fenerbahçe beat SK Slavia Prague 1–0.

Later in his career he moved to Karlsruhe in Germany, becoming the first Turkish footballer to play professionally abroad. He spent much of his footballing life in Germany and died in Karlsruhe on April 5, 1977.
