Barış Başdaş — Biography

Barış Başdaş is a Cologne-born Turkish-German centre-back. He made his name in the Süper Lig with Kasımpaşa, for whom he played 109 games, represented Turkey's youth national teams, went on to play for a series of clubs in Turkey and Germany, and now plays for Sarıyer.

He began playing in his home city in the youth system of 1. FC Köln and moved to Alemannia Aachen in 2006, spending a season in the under-17 side before moving up to the under-19s. In 2009 he transferred to Kasımpaşa; despite his youth he played 21 games in his first season and became a regular in his second. On 6 October 2013 he scored his first Süper Lig goal against Elazığspor, heading in a cross from Ryan Donk on the left.

After Kasımpaşa his career took him through several clubs: on 25 June 2015 he signed a two-year free-transfer deal with Göztepe, and in 2016 he moved to Adana Demirspor. He transferred to Alanyaspor in 2018 and went to Gençlerbirliği in January 2019. In August 2020 he returned to Germany with Hannover 96, and in February 2022 he agreed to play for Yeni Malatyaspor until the end of the season. For the national youth sides he was capped twice at under-18 level and 12 times at under-21 level, scoring once; he also appeared for the A2 national team.
