Aziz Bekir — Biography
Aziz Bekir, born Adis Bećiragić, is a Sarajevo-born basketball coach and former point guard who took Turkish citizenship while playing in Turkey and adopted the name he is known by today. He was one of the backbone players of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team in the 1990s; as a coach he has led Torku Konyaspor and Uşak Sportif in Turkey and Trepça in Kosovo, and was in charge of the Bosnian national team from 2022 to 2025.
He began his professional career in 1990 at the club Bosna, the former European champions, and after playing for Zenica Metalno moved to Turkey, where he wore the shirts of PTT and Ülkerspor and won the Turkish League with Ülkerspor in 1997-98. He played for Bosnia and Herzegovina at EuroBasket 1993, 1997 and 1999 and retired as a player in 2000. He started coaching as an assistant to Murat Özyer at Galatasaray, then was head coach of Torku Konyaspor from 2013 to 2016 and of Uşak Sportif in 2017-18.
In June 2022 he became head coach of the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team; the team did not reach the knockout round at that year's EuroBasket, but in February 2025 he qualified it for EuroBasket 2025. He was named Bosnian Coach of the Year in 2025 and resigned from the national-team job in October 2025. Since May 2023 he has coached Kosovo Superliga side Trepça, winning the Kosovo league in 2023-24 and 2024-25 with the club, along with two Kosovo Cups and two Supercups. He also won cup and league titles in Kosovo with Peja and Ylli.
