Ayşegül Coşkun — Biography
Ayşegül Coşkun was born in Istanbul on 17 June 1985 and works as a Turkish singer, actress and lyricist. Her family originates from Erzincan, and she grew up in an artistic household; her father played wind instruments. She attended Firuza primary school, Kocataş Barbaros secondary school, and a high school in Sarıyer, playing in school bands throughout her education. At her family's insistence she studied business administration at Atatürk University, worked for a time as a bank accountant, and left that job after a falling-out with her boss to write and perform songs.
She began her music career in 2014 with her first track, "Gerçeğim Seninle," followed by her first video, "Cuk." She signed with Ayor Müzik and released singles including "Vur Dizine," "Duvardaki Gülüşler," "Deniz Ol Gel," and "Liman," performing her songs in Turkish, Persian, Spanish, and Greek. She has said that, being a Gemini, she wakes up feeling like a different person each day, which is why her work varies so much. She never achieved major fame in Turkey.
Her real breakthrough came in Iran: in 2019 she played Nazan in Motreb, the country's highest-grossing film ever. She had initially been considered a backup to Meryem Uzerli, but was cast once Uzerli proved unable to speak Persian; Coşkun learned the language in two months, wrote two songs for the film, and recorded its closing duet, "In Sedây-e Man-e," with Parviz Parastui. In 2021 she played Ayla in the third season of Made in Iran.
