Aykut Demir — Biography

Aykut Demir was born on 22 October 1988 in Bergen op Zoom, in the Netherlands. A centre-back by position, he opted to represent Turkey internationally despite being born on Dutch soil.

He began his career at Eredivisie side NAC Breda before moving to SBV Excelsior midway through the 2007-08 season, where he stayed for a further year. In 2009-10 he joined Gençlerbirliği, making 127 official appearances for the club and scoring nine goals. That form earned him a move to Trabzonspor in July 2013, where he signed a five-year deal, before a loan spell at Osmanlıspor at the end of the 2015-16 season. Later in his career he also turned out for BB Erzurumspor.

Demir amassed more than 40 caps across Turkey's under-17, under-18, under-19 and under-21 sides before going on to appear once for the senior national team. He stands 1.81 m tall.
