Aydın Boysan — Biography

Aydın Boysan was a Turkish architect, writer and journalist, born in Istanbul on 17 June 1921 and died there on 5 January 2018. The son of a teacher, Nevreste Boysan, and an accountant of Laz origin from Fındıklı, Esat Boysan, he graduated from Pertevniyal High School in 1939 and from the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts in 1945.

Boysan practiced architecture without interruption until 1999. He was among the founders of the Chamber of Architects of Turkey, serving on its board, as its first secretary general, and as chairman of its Istanbul branch. He taught at Istanbul Technical University between 1957 and 1972 and won awards in both national and international architecture competitions. To publish his own books, he founded Bas Yayınları between 1984 and 1993, and he also wrote newspaper columns for a decade at Hürriyet and three years at Akşam.

Boysan died on 5 January 2018, the same day as actor Münir Özkul, and was buried at Ortaköy Cemetery beside his wife, Suzan Boysan, following the midday prayer. In 2026, his architectural legacy was marked when his name was inscribed at the entrance of Villa Biçen, a house he designed in Bursa.
